24' Ellis Express Cruiser

Originally built as a center cockpit by Ellis Boats, ‘Puffin’ was rebuilt in 1999 and converted into an open express by Desert Boat Company. Work included design and construction of forward cabin, windshield and cockpit; installation of fresh water system; new electrical system and electronics, gauges and steering sytem. Carefully maintained and stored indoors. (2019) care inclued electronics upgrades and professionally stripping and varnishing exterior wood, coamings, cabin sides, sheer/toerail and hatch. ‘Puffin’ is a unique classic and must be seen to appreciate the details.

Hull and deck are hand laid E-glass with vinylester resin. Topsides are finished in Flag Blue Awlgrip. Windshield and helm control station is varnished teak. Bulkheads are composite panels with teak veneer inside and out. Decks and cockpit sole are traditional laid teak. A large teak framed hatch forward of the windshield provides light and ventilation. A solar vent is installed aft of the hatch.
There are two hinged teak seats; one to starboard for helmsman and one to port. The engine box and stern seat are varnished teak with cushions and Sunbrella covers. There is excellent storage under the stern seat. Cockpit sole is teak.Two berths. The electric marine toilet is forward of the berths and slides out of the storage area for use. A drop curtain is provided for privacy. To starboard on the bulkhead is a stainless steel sink with bronze hand pump for fresh water and a butane stove to port. There are reading and overhead lights above each berth.
VOLVO 4.30Si-EF gas engine, 225 HP, new in 2003, turning a 4 blade prop on 1.25” shaft with PYI dripless seal. Single lever gear/throttle control. Hydraulic trim tabs. Speed – 6 knots @ 1,500 rpm, 20 knots @4,000 rpm. New fuel pump, hoses, alternator and belt (2020). Engine hours Aug 2020:455 hoursTwo 12V batteries, 55 amp.
