CONSTRUCTION: Spoon bow and graceful stern overhang, the topsides are White Awlgripped over gelcoat The hull is hand laid fiberglass using woven roving and matt. Decks are permanently glassed to an integral wide-hull flange and through bolted. Bulkheads are bonded to the deck and hull resulting in a strong hull. The hull-deck bond, which insures no movement in this critical joint allows the even distribution of rigging loads throughout the hull. Bronze seacocks are installed on all through-hulls. Long shallow lead keel incorporates a hydraulically operated centerboard (new piston 2000) and is attached with stainless steel keel bolts. The rudder is mounted aft of the keel on a skeg which contains the propeller aperture; providing shallow draft, excellent propeller protection and good rudder control and strength. Rub rail with a stainless steel cap. All exterior trim is varnished teak including the raised toe rails, cabin house eyebrows and cabin top hand rails port & starboard, winch and cowl vent bases and aft lazarette covers. Locking companionway hatch has solid teak boards, varnished and edged in brass. Dorade vents provide adequate ventilation.

ACCOMODATIONS: ASTRAEA sleeps 7 in the forward master stateroom (with v-berth insert), main cabin and quarterberth sleeping areas. Interior is finished in gloss/satin varnished mahogany with white overhead and solid teak & holly soles. All locker doors are louvered. Interior cushions are blue (1995) with accent cushions (1997). There are curtains and handrails throughout. Two overhead opening Bomar hatches (NEW 2006) and 10 portlights, 3 opening on each side and then the aft two larger, offer plenty of natural light and ventilation. Lovely Chelsea brass clock & barometer and Weems & Plath tide clock. Forepeak chain locker is accessed through louvered doors. Head is to port accessed from the main cabin. Features include: Vanity with white formica countertop and a stainless steel sink with hot & cold pressure water, telephone-type shower with sump, medicine cabinet and mirror. Upgraded (2007) Marine type II toilet with new sanitation treatment system, tank and Y-valve. An opening port provides extra ventilation. Amidship is the main cabin that has a hanging wet locker forward to starboard directly across from the head. There are curtains throughout. Starboard is a transom berth with storage behind, and a pilot berth outboard. Port is an L-shaped settee that can convert to a double berth. A varnished drop-leaf mahogany dining table has a built-in bottle rack. There is ample storage throughout. On the port forward bulkhead there is a custom Luke brass & soapstone wood stove, a Mahogany bookshelf, stereo speaker and the clock, barometer & tide clock. Opening ports and hatches provide ample light and ventilation throughout. The U-shaped galley is aft to port and to starboard is the Nav Station with forward facing varnished mahogany nav table with cushioned seat and dome light over. The nav table top opens for storage of charts etc., and has additional storage drawers, a locker with louvered doors below the table, and a chart light. Electronics & gauges, electrical panel and stereo are outboard.

GALLEY: White formica "U" shapped countertops. Forward is a Grunert AC/DC refrigerator/freezer with 8 cubic feet of storage in three compartments with the center being the freezer and outside compartments refrigeration. Two top access hatches offers plenty of countertop workspace. Outboard is a stainless steel gimballed Force 10 3-burner gas stove (1995) with oven & broiler and Marinetics propane switch. Aft is a double stainless steel sink with hot & cold pressure water and a freshwater hand pump.

PLUMBING: Allcraft 110-volt hot water heater heater (1996). Hot and cold pressure ands manual back up water system with shower and sump drain. Jabsco Par Max 4 electric bilge pump.

ENGINE: Westerbeke 4-108 FWC diesel (rebuilt in 1997) with 2:1 gear and stainless steel shaft with PSS shaft seal and a 3-blade prop. Engine and Racor fuel filter are accessed through a removable panel in the galley or through the sail lockers. The engine panel includes tach, volt, water temperature and oil pressure meters. The engine room is sound insulated.

STEERING: Stainless steel Destroyer wheel type on a binacle with engine controls.

ELECTRONICS: Raytheon RL-9 radar w/pedestal pod mount · Icom M-59 VHF radio · Micrologic Admiral GPS · Ritchie 5" compass · Garmin electronic chart plotter · Autohelm ST-50 instruments for wind speed, wind direction, depth & knotmeter.

ELECTRICAL: 12-volt DC & 110-volt AC systems with Bass electrical panel (including volt and amp meters). Two battery banks with selector switch consisting of (1) 12-volt 100-amp starting battery & (4) 6-volt 225-amp/hr battery bank for accessories. Engine driven high output 105-amp Alternator. 110-volt AC system with Sentry battery charger including a shore power cord. All required navigation lights. Rigging, mast, electronics, engine and thru hulls are bonded together to provide protection from lightning and electrolysis. There are 12 volt dome, reading lights and cabin fans in various locations throughout the boat. Pioneer CD stereo player, inlets for phone and TV connections.

SAILS and RIGGING: ASTRAEA is sloop rigged with roller furling. She has a single spreader tapered aluminum mast stepped to the keel with stainless steel standing rigging coupled with chrome plated turnbuckles. COMMENTS: This Hank Hinckley design and built OC-40 was finished to a very high standard of craftmanship in Bar Harbor, Maine. Mr. Hinckley put special effort into this first of what was to become twenty hulls built. ASTRAEA is a beautiful example of his family name heritage and represents a very good value. The boat has a larger interior than most 40 footer and is in excellent condition. She has been professionally maintained and can be seen anytime in nearby heated storage.
